ingredients for the cream cheese layer

Ingredients Needed

Cream cheese – Use full fat cream cheese in a block for the creamiest flavor and texture. Soften to room temperature for easier mixing.

Boursin cheese spread – This is basically an soft herby cream cheese found in the deli section. Substitute whipped herb cream cheese in a pinch.

Italian seasoning – Homemade Italian seasoning. Don’t have any? Make your own mixture of garlic powder, oregano, thyme, and rosemary.

Fresh mozzarella – This is usually found in small balls or logs that come conveniently sliced.

Shredded cheese – I prefer an Italian blend but you can use a mixture of mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese.

Pizza sauce – Use your favorite brand, homemade, or substitute marinara sauce in a pinch.

Pepperoni – I like the regular size pepperoni slices. You can cut them into strips for smaller bites or buy the mini pepperoni.

Pizza crust – Get a par-cooked thin crust like Boboli for best results.

How to Make Pizza Dip in a Skillet

First: Cook the thin pizza crust per package directions without the toppings. Let cool slightly. Break into chip size pieces.

Spread the cream cheese mixture in the bottom of a 10 inch cast iron skillet or baking dish.

Third: Spread 1/2 the fresh mozzarella over the spread. Spread the pizza sauce over the cheeses.

Fourth: Cover with shredded cheese, fresh mozzarella, and pepperoni slices.

Can I add more toppings?

This pizza is basically a cheese and pepperoni pizza without the crust. It’s a blank canvas really. Add any of your favorite toppings.

I love slices green peppers, black olives, and banana peppers in mine. And, of course, extra cheese.

Additional Toppings to Try

  • Green onions
  • Green bell peppers
  • Red bell peppers
  • Fresh spinach
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Fresh basil
  • Sausage (for a supreme pizza dip)
  • Ham
  • Pineapple (for a Hawaiian pizza dip)

How long does it last?

If you have any leftover, you can store it in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. I don’t recommend freezing this recipe.

You can make this recipe up to 3 days in advance. Just prep and store in the fridge until ready to bake.

How do I reheat leftovers?

Reheat leftover pizza dip in an oven safe dish at 350 until bubbly and the cheese is melted again.

You can also microwave it in 30 second intervals until heated through.

Can I make it in a slow cooker?

You certainly can. Place all the items in crock pot. Turn on low and cook for 2 hours. Change setting to warm setting while serving.

Voila! Crockpot Pepperoni Pizza Dip.
