Million Dollar Dip Recipe
Today, I’m sharing an easy dip recipe that is a huge hit at every gathering I host. Say hello to the Million Dollar Dip, also popularly known as the Neiman Marcus Dip.
Packed with sharp cheddar cheese, real bacon bits, and topped with toasty almonds this dip delivers an amazing combination of flavors that is a game day staple and a must-have for party platters.
Some other appetizers that taste like big bucks are my Million Dollar Deviled Eggs, Rotel Dip, Everything Bagel Dip, and my Jalapeno Popper Cheese Ball.
Why is it called million dollar dip?
The “Million Dollar” part of the Million Dollar Dip’s name is thought to mean that the dip tastes so incredibly good and rich, it’s like a million-dollar experience.
Helen Corbitt was a celebrated chef at the Neiman Marcus Zodiac Room in Dallas, Texas. She crafted this dip with simple ingredients, but the result was so rich and delicious, it soon became a party favorite.
Over time, this Neiman Marcus Dip took on a new name, Million Dollar Dip. And why not? Each bite tastes like a million bucks!

What are some other names for million dollar dip?
- Neiman Marcus Dip: Named for the department store, Neiman Marcus.
- 5-Minute Dip: Because it’s so quick to make.
- Bacon Cheese Dip: Another common name due to the main ingredients.
- Almighty Dip: Because of its rich and addictive taste.
- Cheese and Bacon Dip: Named after its two primary ingredients.
- Party Dip: Because it’s popular at gatherings and parties.
What do you serve with it?
- Crackers: Wheat crackers, Ritz crackers, butter crackers, or rice crackers.
- Fresh Vegetables: Sliced cucumbers, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, celery sticks, or carrot sticks.
- Bread: Toasted baguette slices, crostini, breadsticks, or pita bread.
- Pretzels: Traditional pretzels or pretzel sticks would also work well.
- Chips: Potato chips, kettle chips, or tortilla chips.
What’s the difference between million dollar dip and crack dip?
The original recipe for Million-dollar dip uses just cream cheese and no mayo.
Crack Dip, also known as “Bacon Cheddar Ranch Dip” or “Cheesy Bacon Dip”, doesn’t use cream cheese but a combination of sour cream and mayonnaise with ranch seasoning.

Ingredients Needed
Almonds – Slivered almonds work best. If you have sliced almonds, just chop them a little.
Cheese – Shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Grate your own for best flavor.
Mayonnaise – Substitute plain Greek yogurt if needed.
Cream cheese – Full fat, low fat, or fat free cream cheese, softened.
Bacon – Cooked and crumbled. I don’t recommend you use Bacon bits.
Green onion – Sliced or substitute some grated sweet onion.
Spices – Garlic powder, salt and black pepper if desired.

How long does it last?
Million Dollar Dip can last up to 3 days in the refrigerator. Store any leftover dip in an airtight container or place in a serving bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
Can you freeze it?
While it’s technically possible to freeze Million Dollar Dip, I don’t recommended it. The dairy ingredients can separate and become grainy and watery.
Can you make it ahead of time?
Yes, you can make Million Dollar Dip ahead of time. In fact, making it a day in advance can even increase the intensity of the flavors as they mingle together.

How long can you let it sit out at a party?
For food safety reasons, it’s generally recommended not to leave perishable foods like dips made with cream cheese, mayonnaise, or other dairy products out at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
This is because harmful bacteria can start to grow rapidly in the so-called “danger zone” between 40°F and 140°F (5°C and 60°C).
If a dish has been left out beyond this time, it’s safer to throw it out to avoid the risk of foodborne illnesses.
If you’re serving Million Dollar Dip at a party and expect it to sit out for an extended period, consider keeping the dip bowl placed in a larger bowl of ice to keep it chilled, or have it out in smaller portions, replenishing from the fridge as needed.

Tapas Tips & Tricks
- Start with room temperature cream cheese (softened) for a smooth dip.
- You can substitute packaged bacon bits but fresh bacon tastes better.
- Grate your own cheese. Pre-shredded cheese doesn’t mix well.
- Serve with fresh veggies, chips, or your favorite crackers.
- Want to add a little kick? Try a sprinkle of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce.
- You can garnish with extra cheese, almonds, onions, or bacon.
- Use real mayo and full-fat cream cheese for the best taste.
