GRAPEFRUIT COCKTAIL

What does everyone need more of during the holidays? For me, it’s easy recipes that are delicious and perfect for parties, and every party needs a punch or a signature cocktail.

When I think of easy cocktails, I mean 4 or fewer ingredients. No one wants to monkey around with complicated recipes or wants to buy a crap ton of ingredients for one recipe.

When I think of the holidays I also think of the fragrance of fresh herbs!  Sage, thyme, rosemary, basil, mint, and lavender.

Those aromas are calming to me but they also make great additions to cocktails and oh-so-pretty garnishes too!

ROSEMARY COCKTAIL

Now that we are on the same page with using herbs in cocktails and simple syrups, let’s talk about my favorite herb to use of all time, rosemary.

Once I discovered a humongous rosemary bush out my front door, I have been using it in everything! I mean, an endless supply of it gives me free range to try it in just about everything I make!

The needles of the rosemary bush out front are so fragrant and bursting with oils that just running your hand over the bush leaves a sticky residue on it that you can smell for days!

All that excess oil lends itself to making infused teas, simple syrups, and awesome appetizers.

Using rosemary in your cocktails is easy! Just smush or slap a few springs and toss in your drink. The sweet smell will drift up into your nose while you are sipping away and add new layers of flavor.

A mixture of herbs and tart grapefruit is the perfect combo for a cocktail! Especially during the holiday season! | Grapefruit Rosemary Rum Punch | Take Two Tapas | #Grapefruit #Rosemary #RumPunch #RumCocktails

GRAPEFRUIT ROSEMARY RUM PUNCH

For the perfect holiday cocktail, mix the tart grapefruit juice, some rum (or another spirit you like), a hint of sweetness via honey or simple syrup, and a splash of bubbles to mix it all together. A single serve cocktail is great but you can also make a large batch for a punch.

An ice ring made of club soda or sparkling water, studded with rosemary sprigs and grapefruit slices, will make a gorgeous garnish for your punch bowl and a beautiful centerpiece to your drink table.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE CAN I MAKE THE COCKTAIL?

You can mix the grapefruit juice, rum, simple syrup, and rosemary together up to 3 days in advance. The longer the rosemary sits in the mixture, the more it infuses and the stronger it gets.  Just don’t add the club soda until you are ready to serve it.

CAN I INFUSE THE SIMPLE SYRUP WITH ROSEMARY?

Yes, you can. I love infused syrups because you can do them ahead of time. Check out my Chili Pepper Simple Syrup to see how!

CAN I SUBSTITUTE SOMETHING FOR THE CLUB SODA?

I love using sparkling water instead of club soda for the extra flavor it adds but you can also use plain water. I don’t like tonic water for the bitterness that it brings but it is a personal preference.

CAN I USE DRIED ROSEMARY?

I would not recommend it. Dried rosemary doesn’t have the oil content that fresh rosemary does and will not infuse the same as fresh would. It will also leave a flat and dried flavor to your cocktail.

I want to know where to buy these glasses that are pictured in your grapefruit rum punch?

I bought them off ebay a few years ago. I have also been lucky enough to find some at TJMaxx just different sizes and colors. Aren't they just awesome?! Amazon sometimes has them. I just search for "authentic recycled glass" and sometimes get lucky. Here is a link to one but there are many to choose from. https://amzn.to/30dnabc I have the tall ones too and love them for tonics! Cheers!
