Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup sweet onion diced
- 1 green bell pepper seeded & diced
- 1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
- 1 cup beef broth
- .87 ounces brown gravy packet
- 3 cups mozzarella cheese
- 28 ounces frozen tater tots
- Fresh chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425F.
- In a large skillet over medium high heat, add the butter and ground beef.
- Cook until beef is almost done. Stir in the onions, bell pepper, and mushrooms.
- Cook until the onions and peppers are softened.
- Stir in the beef broth and gravy packet.
- Pour into a greased 9×13 baking dish.
- Top with cheese.
- Layer the top with tater tots.
- Bake at 42F for 30 minutes or until bubbly, the cheese is melted, and the tater tots are crispy and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven.
- Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and enjoy.
Notes
- Brown and season the ground beef well, then drain thoroughly.
- Cook vegetables until crisp tender. They'll finish cooking in the oven.
- Boost flavor with onion powder or a dash of Worcestershire sauce.
- Make it creamier by adding cream cheese, sour cream, or substituting cream of mushroom soup for fresh mushrooms.
- Switch up the cheese. Provolone slices work great in place of mozzarella.
- Don't over bake it - cover with foil if it browns too quickly, and let rest 5 minutes before serving.
