Easy Spinach Dip

When I start planning a party, I start by thinking about what to serve. Usually before I even decide why I’m having a party, or who I am going to invite.

I might even go as far as plan a get together where I only invite two people: myself and a bowl of spinach dip!

Does this make me weird? Nope, not after you try this spinach dip! You too might be having a quiet night in with just you and this handsome bread bowl of yumminess.

Even better is that this Spinach Dip only uses 4 ingredients! 5 if count the bread bowl, but who’s counting, right?!?!

Ingredients Needed

The Original Ranch Spinach Dip is full of delicious flavors, mouth-watering herbs and spices, and fun textures for a party in every bite!

Making this dip is super easy, which is why I love it for a weekend crowd or just snacking mid week while I am making dinner.

This 4 ingredient recipe includes:

  • sour cream
  • Hidden Valley ranch seasoning Shaker
  • chopped spinach
  • water chestnuts

How to Make Spinach Dip in a Bread Bowl

Not only is the recipe easy because of it’s simple and delicious ingredients, but even quicker with the Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning Shaker. Forget tearing open a package, just uncap and sprinkle some seasoning right into the dip!

The fun doesn’t stop there, you can add some your favorite ranch seasoning to any week day meal or snack with a few shakes from the convenient Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning Shaker.

I can’t get enough of it, I might need one for every room in the house:)

Once you have your dip put together, let’s get our serving bowl in order. While the dip is chilling out in the fridge and all the flavors are getting to know each other, grab your round French bread loaf.

Cut a circle in the top at an angle and hollow out the extra bread inside. Don’t throw away that inside bread or the top, cut or tear them into bite-sized pieces. Perfect for dipping out a big bite of the dip hiding out in the fridge.

This Creamy Beer Cheese Bread Bowl Dip is outstanding too if you are in a cheesy mood!

Can I heat it up?

You can heat up the dip in the microwave at half power in one minute intervals until warm or you can place in the oven at 350F for 5-10 minutes.

What goes well with spinach dip?

Just about everything goes well with spinach dip in a bread bowl. Besides the bread you are using to scoop out dip, try adding a variety of crackers and raw veggies too!

How long can it sit out?

Because of the dairy in the dip, I wouldn’t let it sit out for more than 2 hours at room temperature. I don’t think you will have to worry about it being around for that long anyway!

Can you freeze spinach dip?

Yes, you can! Just give it a stir to remix when it’s thawed out. If it gets a little watery, you can place it in a colander lined with paper towels until it’s nice and thick again.

Can you use fresh spinach?

Frozen and chopped is easier but if you want to use fresh spinach, just cook up and drain really well.

What is a substitute for water chestnuts?

If you don’t feel like using water chestnuts, feel free to add celery, onions, artichoke hearts, or even pecans!

How far in advance can you make it?

This dip can be made up to two days in advance as long as you keep it stored in the fridge!

I made this for a neighborhood potluck and found it very quick and easy. After about a half an hour after I set it out, my neighbors were scraping the bread bowl for the last traces of dip. I'm definably making this again!

Does this recipe call for frozen spinach..do you thaw it out and squeeze it ? How about the seasoning...can you use the package of ranch seasoning from the package? If so how much..1 package ? If not how much is 1oz of seasoning? 2 tablespoons???

Frozen spinach is best. I thaw it and squeeze as much water out of it as possible. The packets are one ounce but if you have the shaker bottle or are making your own it is 3 tablespoons of seasoning mix.
