Christmas Snack Ideas

Holiday parties are fun but can be totally exhausting if you are hosting them. Also, tiring AND filling if you are the guest to one or multiple parties over the course of the season.

Your pants start feeling tight and you get worn down from all the excitement and eating. I have a great idea for you to try. A snack platter!

I love snacking and grazing because it keeps me from feeling like I need to eat everything on my plate at a meal, or feeling guilty at a dinner party where a plate is already fixed for me and I am either too full to eat it all or I don’t particularly like one of the foods on it.

This is where snack platters, cheese boards, charcuterie plates, this Christmas Snack Platter, and veggie trays come in handy. You can pick and choose what you want to eat and how much of it to consume.

I am bucking holiday traditions of the fancy Christmas party and opting for fun ideas and a finger food that the whole family will love.

Plus putting this easy recipe together makes for Christmas parties without all the stress! And it’s the perfect way to satisfy the picky eaters like younger children.

Kids Snack Platter for Christmas

You can serve all the traditional buffet foods and make the usual snack platter, but what about dessert? When I think of the holidays I think cookie exchange!

And all those delicious cookies, cakes, tarts, and candies to bake, take, and share are great but who has time to make all those AND host a party.

What about when you are trying to check off your holiday to-do list or wrap gifts and the kids are running wild and asking for snacks every 5 minutes?

This is when I think of snack plate ideas and cute easy Christmas treats that I can serve them at home, at their school party, or bag up as edible gifts for friends and family.

Not a bad idea for a last minute stocking stuffer either!

chocolate covered pretzel stars with peppermint

Ingredients Needed

I also found some cute Christmas desserts and candies there at this time of year. Red and green candy corn, gummy rings, and peppermint chocolate covered marshmallows.

Feel free to incorporate your favorites and any other festive treats you might find while doing your regular shopping!

Christmas Snack Platter Ideas

  • Goldfish Crackers
  • Fresh fruit
  • Holiday colored candies
  • Pretzels (White chocolate covered ones)
  • Crackers
  • Caramel corn
  • Meringue cookies
  • Biscoff cookie
  • Variety of bite-sized cookies
  • Animal crackers (snack mixes like Reindeer chow)
  • Peppermint candies/Peppermint covered crackers and cookies

How to make a Christmas Snacks Platter

FIRST: Decide on what you want to serve based on what your friends and family like to eat. Then go out and gather all the things!

SECOND: Start assembling your board by placing down a piece of parchment or wax paper. Add a few bowls that will contain your “wet” or more perishable ingredients.

THIRD: Start placing the treats around the board in small piles. Be sure to make more than one pile of each item so that guests on both sides of the board can reach everything.

FOURTH: Fill in the gaps with holiday specific candies and other treats. Don’t forget to garnish with fresh herbs or fun & festive decorations.

Do I have to use all store bought items?

No, feel free to use what you have on hand or are making for the occasion. I used a lot of pre-made things to save time. You can also incorporate your favorite homemade cookies and candies.

Can I add cheese and meats?

Feel free to add what you like, but since those have storage restrictions like keeping them cool I tried to keep those off. If you don’t have any restrictions, some of you favorite sliced meats are a hit. You can also add in string cheese snowmen too.

Gluten Free Options

While shopping for my snack platter, I noticed quite a few gluten-free and allergy-friendly options at my local grocer. Also, check out some local health food stores or farmers markets for healthy Christmas snacks and options.

I used a similar serving board to create the snack platter. unfortunately my snack platter turned out to be a failure. by the time the guests start to eat the crackers / biscuits, all the crackers and biscuits started to turn soft and not crisp anymore. Those gummy candies coated with sugar, started to turn moist and messy. And I only started displaying them at 630pm, guests start eating from 730pm. The food turned messy within 1 hour. It was very embarrassin, seriously need to reconsider what kind of snacks to display that will not melt/turn soft. by the way the room temperature is around 23 degrees celcius, not very warm i presume. wondering what went wrong.

I am sorry that you had such a problem with the platter. When I made it in the past (in Arizona) I didn't have a problem with leaving the snacks out for at least 2 hours. If there is really high humidity in the area, I can see where that would create an environment where crackers would get soft and the sugary candy would get very sticky. These items are just guidelines and suggestions for serving, you can try cookies/crackers and candies that are more able to stand up to humidity. Another suggestion is to keep the snacks portioned out in zip top bags and place the bags on the platter where you would like them to be and then empty them out right before your guests are ready to eat.

They are white chocolate covered snowflake pretzels. I found them at Kroger in the seasonal section but feel free to use what ever you find. You might find a tree shaped pretzel or angel shaped pretzel this year.
